Update

Dear Colleagues:

The GEA/ district administration Google Survey to see if any of the involuntarily transferred members are able to either stay in the position that they currently hold or a position of their choice is completed.  Due to this still being a very fluid situation with the pending override vote happening today/tonight, we will be holding onto the survey until the financial picture becomes more clear in the next few days.

Last Thursday, May 9th, we had our 2nd GCAT/PAT Meeting.  The group penned a very strong statement coauthored by both parents and educators with the intention of reading the statement at the May 23rd School Committee meeting.  Please keep that date available because we will be looking for union support at the meeting.

Tomorrow, May 14th, we will have our next Negotiating Meeting at the GMHS Cafeteria beginning at 4:30 PM.  It is IMPORTANT that as many members attend these meetings.  We know the weather is getting better and everyone is tired but settling for a fair contract is more important. We need your presence there.

The negotiating team would like your feedback regarding any disrespect that you have had to deal with personally or as a team or grade level this past year.  This survey is optional, but any feedback from membership will be extremely helpful as negotiations continue. The form will be open until Monday, 5/13/2024.  The Link is below.

We know many members are updating their licenses in the next few months.  We invited an MTA Licensure Expert to help guide members through the process.  The Tuesday. May 21st meeting from 3:00-3:30 PM via zoom has been confirmed. A zoom link will be sent when we get closer to that date.

The ULP, the Unfair Labor Practice will be heard virtually on July 11th regarding the posting of union signs in the classrooms.  We look forward to presenting at this hearing and will update membership when a resolution is met.  Our representative is looking for examples of non school related posters and personal items hanging on the walls in your classrooms.  She stated that my quarter of a century of U2 posters in my room is a great start but she would like more.  We will be sending out a Google Form for you to list your items so that we may present your examples at the July 11th hearing.

The GEA is happy to notify membership that our grievance regarding allowing children of members the ability to attend the Georgetown School System was settled in the GEA'S favor before the grievance was even presented.  We're saddened that this issue caused our members anxiety but glad that the issue is behind us.

Thursday, June 6th is the date for our annual GEA Meeting.  At this meeting, we will be updating membership on Negotiating, etc.  Also, the GEA Elections will be presented to membership with GEA Elections slated for Thursday, June 13th.  If you are interested in running for any GEA Position (Building Rep, Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President or President) please forward your name to me, ASAP.

Thanks

GEA Executive Board
